A couple of decades back, people were scared
to consult a Psychiatrist foreseeing the embarrassment they may receive from
the society. Later a remarkable change in attitude took place even among the
public of under developed countries and people started realizing the actual
concept of Psychiatric disorders. Now people feel free to consult a
Psychiatrist at ease as they consult any other specialists. Today around 50%
of the patients of a Psychiatrist are children between the age of 10 to 20.
Our Department of Psychiatry offers full
range of Psychiatric Services covering childhood to genetic psychiatric
disorders, with a special area of interest in Childhood and Adolescent
Psychological difficulties.
Department of Psychiatry in our Institution
is headed by Dr.Gerry D’Costa MD(Psy.). He did his MD Psychiatry and
subsequent residency in one of India’s prestigious Psychiatric Institute, ie.
The Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour, Goa.
With
over six years experience in the Child Guidance Clinic and other well known
hospitals, he brings his wealth of experience to the Sultanate. The ultimate
goal of our Psychiatric department is “POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH”.
