Dr. Benny Panakkal MD (Internal Medicine), DM (Cardiology), MESC is our Group Medical Director. He is a cardiologist and also the Head of our Cardiology Department. Dr. Panakkal has more than ten years experience in cardiology and was working as Chief Cardiologist in Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur, India before joining Badr Al Samaa in March 2003. After completing his post graduation in Internal Medicine in 1991, he took Doctorate in Cardiology and awarded as the best out going candidate from MCH, Trivandrum in 1995
He has been trained in Invasive Cardiology from Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, Chennai. He has published articles in Indian Heart Journal and was extensively involved in giving lectures as part of CME programmes under the auspices of Indian Medical Association. He was the organizing secretary of Annual State Conference of Cardiological Society of India for the year 1999, and was a delegate in the annual conference of American College of Cardiology, Atlanta, U.S.A in the year 2002
Dr.Panakkal is widely acknowledged as a leading Cardiologist in this region and his frequent CME programmes are enthusiastically attended by doctors from different part of Oman. |

The cardiology department at Badr Al Samaa is one of the best in the private sector in Oman. It is fully equipped for noninvasive assessment of the heart.
Exercise Stress Test, Holter Monitoring, ABP Monitoring, etc. are routinely done here. For the patient management, the department is using the world renowned Cardiosoft Patient Management System. The latest addition in the department is the most advanced GE’s Seer Holter Monitoring Equipment & Tonoport ABP Monitoring Equipment with multiple options. The department also owns to its credit, Colour Doppler Echocardiography machine,Vivid 3 Expert from GE Medical Systems USA. This machine is equipped with latest Echocardiography techniques like tissue harmonic imaging and tissue Doppler. The machine has capability to do Echocardiogram Pharmacological Stress Test..
An emergency Coronary Care Unit (CCU) with all facilities like multi parameter monitors, defibrillators, infusion pumps, temporary pace maker, ventilator, etc. is also available in our institution. This is highly beneficial for people who face the unenviable situation of a Heart Attack. When blood vessels of the heart get blocked by a clot and heart attack happens, early treatment to dissolve the clot is the most important step to prevent damage to the heart. Badr al Samaa has approved facility to give this life saving treatment.

The department is all set to add a chest pain clinic to meet the increasing public demand. The chest pain clinic in the Cardiology department will function 24 hrs and patients can directly access the clinic without waiting for appointments and other formalities so that any cardiac emergencies can be managed more effectively. |
